Find Out If You're a Candidate
SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwired - Mar 11, 2016) - Imagine a procedure that would target and diminish fat cells without damaging the skin or surrounding tissue. In addition, the process is non-invasive, quick, and requires no recovery time. Does it sound like a science fiction story? The treatment is called CoolSculpting, and it came on to the scene about six years ago as an FDA-cleared freeze the fat reduction method for problem areas, such as the flank, the abdomen, and the thighs.
How CoolSculpting® Works
CoolSculpting was developed by doctors and scientists associated with Harvard Medical School. The observation was made that some children who eat popsicles grow up to have dimples as adults, because the cold kills the fat cells. Dieter Manstein, MD and R. Rox Anderson, MD, the creators of the technology, developed a process to "freeze the fat cells" in the body without harming the surrounding tissue or skin. This treatment helps to sculpt areas where fat remains, even after diet and exercise.
During treatment, the targeted area of the body will feel very cold as the technology is applied to the area. While the procedure is taking place, the individual can relax, sleep, play games on a smartphone, or read. It's performed in a spa-like environment. The fat cells are frozen. In the next few weeks, the cells will be processed out of the body and gone for good.
Choosing Lipo or CoolSculpting®
CoolSculpting offers many benefits over liposuction. It is a non-surgical procedure, which means there is no recovery time. The only side effects may be some redness or bruising following the treatment. Another advantage is the cost, as CoolSculpting is much less expensive than lipo. No anesthesia is required during CoolSculpting, making it more effective for patients with health problems that may not allow surgery. Although it does take longer to see the full benefits of CoolSculpting, the recovery time is much shorter. There is no risk of infection, because there is no incision.
It should be noted that CoolSculpting works most effectively with small problems areas. Some people are not candidates for the procedure. Only a doctor or plastic surgeon can fully determine if Liposuction or CoolSculpting is the best option for a particular individual. Following the procedure, even though the treated fat cells drain from the body, the remaining fat cells in the body can still expand. A patient should be committed to maintaining a healthy diet to see the best results.
The San Diego CoolSculpting specialists with Aesthetic Center of La Jolla are supervised by double board certified Facial Plastic Surgeon Dr. Roy David. Each team member has undergone certification training at the CoolSculpting University by the makers of the procedure.
